Professor AP de Silva of Queen’s University Belfast developed a photosensor in the 1980s to analyse electrolytes in the blood. In the subsequent decades, this technology has been used to save thousands of human and animal lives in emergency situations around the world. The Royal Society of Chemistry unveils a National Chemistry Landmark plaque to honour Prof. de Silva and his contributions to chemistry.
