Documentary exploring the lived experience of mothers and daughters in three minority ethnic communities and how families interact between the generations in a multicultural society.
Thirty six women from the Chinese, Asian and Muslim communities worked with Northern Visions and ArtsEkta to explore the lived experience of mothers and daughters in minority ethnic communities in Northern Ireland and how families interact in a society which is becoming multicultural. The project centred on crafts, storytelling and new media and was delivered in English, Mandarin and Punjabi.
Intended as a gentle, cross-cultural project to explore the mother and daughter relationship, the women told their stories whilst participating in arts and craft workshops in textiles, mosaics and painting.
Artists involved included Lexy Higgins, Trish McNally and Kousalyaa Somasundram. Thanks to Donegall Pass Community Forum, Craigavon Hub & Belfast Islamic Centre. The project was funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Lottery Fund.
