Northern Visions Announces Strategic Agreement with That’s TV to Secure Future of Local Broadcasting in Belfast
The Board of Northern Visions (NVTV) is pleased to announce the completion of an agreement to transfer the local TV licence for Belfast to That’s TV. This move ensures the long-term sustainability of local broadcasting in Belfast on Freeview Channel 7 and Virgin cable 159, while preserving Northern Visions’ commitment to community-focused, culturally relevant content.
Under the agreement, That’s TV will acquire NVTV’s Ofcom-licensed broadcast assets, allowing the channel to continue operating and broadcasting to viewers in Belfast. The agreement guarantees that a minimum of 26 hours of NVTV programming will be broadcast annually on the Belfast local TV service for the next ten years, ensuring a continued presence for community voices, local talent, and independent production.
“This is a positive and strategic step that allows Northern Visions to continue our mission of producing and promoting high-quality, locally made content,” said Simon Wood, Chairperson of Northern Visions. “We are proud that our legacy will remain on screen through our continued production work and the guaranteed broadcast of our programming.”
The agreement supports NVTV’s funders and partners, including the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, the Ulster Scots Broadcast Fund, and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, by enabling continued visibility for programming made under their guidance and funding. All programming will continue to be produced by Northern Visions to high editorial standards and retain their cultural and regional relevance.
Simon Wood added: “Through this partnership, Northern Visions will focus on its strengths in production, training, and community engagement, while That’s TV will assume responsibility for the broadcast infrastructure and scheduling under the licence. This collaboration is rooted in mutual respect and a shared aim to support local media.”
“Both Northern Vision and That’s TV worked closely to ensure a smooth transition, including obtaining Ofcom’s approval. The agreement was reached in good faith, with a focus on continuity, transparency, and the public interest.”
“We believe this agreement represents a sustainable future for local broadcasting in Belfast,” said Daniel Cass, Director of That’s TV. “We are excited about this ongoing partnership and look forward to working with Northern Visions to ensure their outstanding productions reach the widest possible audience.”
